An Afternoon Walk from Seoul Forest to Seongsu

Have a few hours in eastern Seoul and want more walking than shopping? Start in Seoul Forest, then keep the Seongsu part flexible as you head toward Yeonmujang-gil. Allow 3 to 4 hours, including pauses to rest or take photos. A meal, lines, and travel to and from the neighborhood need extra time.

This is a planning guide based on published park and district information, not a first-hand account.

Begin with the park

Seoul Forest is open 24 hours. The park lists Exit 4 at Seoul Forest Station as an access point. The gardens and indoor facilities keep their own hours and closing days.

This garden photograph is from May 2022. It shows a planted corner as it looked then, not what will be in bloom or open on your visit. The Insect Botanical Garden closes on Mondays. It is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from March through October and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from November through February. The Butterfly Garden is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from May through October and also closes on Mondays. Check the park's current notice if either facility is part of your plan.

Keep the Seongsu part loose

After the park, continue toward Yeonmujang-gil. Seongdong-gu's guide points visitors to factory and warehouse buildings among the area's red-brick streets. Shops can change or close, so leave room to choose one on the day.

One way to spend the afternoon

The example starts at 1:00 p.m. The half-hour for moving from the park to Yeonmujang-gil is a planning allowance, not a measured walk.

Choose your stopping point on the day

Cafe Onion can be a place to sit at the end of the walk, though it is easy to skip if you would rather keep moving. Its operator lists weekday hours as 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., weekend and holiday hours as 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and last orders at 9:30 p.m. Visit Seoul lists a 9:00 a.m. weekend opening, so the published times conflict. Check the operator's notice before an early visit.
